At the centre of the department is a dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, equipped with paediatric and newborn ventilators, phototherapy units, warmers and a neonatal CPAP machine, with a resuscitation bay built directly into the Labour Theatre and an exclusive operation theatre for caesarean section — so a baby who needs immediate support after birth is already inside the unit built to provide it. Every paediatric surgical procedure is backed by experienced paediatric anaesthesia, an area in which senior anaesthetist Dr. Ganapathi P Bhat, the hospital's Medical Director, has particular long-standing expertise in newborn and paediatric cases — a distinct role and person from Dr. Ganapathi Bhat M, who provides general paediatric medical care.
